3.                  How were the individuals who participated in the Opening Doors Project selected and notified about the process.

 

4.                  What were your hopes and expectations for your participation in the Opening Doors Project for yourself?  For those with whom you work?  Were those hopes and expectations met?

 

5.                  What obstacles did you encounter as you and your consumers progressed through the process?  Some examples might include agency philosophy, family resistance, lack of mentors, lack of understanding of self-determination principles, information not reaching the appropriate personnel, etc.  How could the Opening Doors staff assist in overcoming these barriers?  What other needs/issues should be addressed?

 

6.                  Was the Opening Doors Project helpful in assisting you and those you serve in becoming more aware of the options available for self-determined housing?  Examples would include information about renting vs. home ownership, the availability of Home Choice (Section 8) vouchers and mortgage products.  What other things could be of assistance to you?

12.              In addition to providing information directly to service providers and individuals with developmental disabilities, the Opening Doors staff made efforts to influence policy regarding housing issues as they relate to persons with developmental disabilities.  What efforts were you aware of?  How successful do you feel these efforts were?  Advocacy efforts included testimony before the State Legislature and HOC staff, improving relations with HOC staff and participating on a variety of committees.
